Queueshi Scenic Area

Queueshi Scenic Area is located on the south bank of Queueshi Sea in Haojiang District, Shantou City, Guangdong Province. It is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction covering approximately 13.47 square kilometers, known as the "Top of Shantou's Eight Sights." The scenic area features four major landscapes: sea, mountain, rock, and cave, combining majestic, peculiar, beautiful, and secluded beauty. Integrating natural scenery, historical culture, entertainment activities, and leisure vacations, it is an important tourist destination in the Chaoshan region.

Queueshi Scenic Area is located on the south bank of Queueshi Sea in Haojiang District, Shantou City, facing the old urban area of Shantou across the sea. It lies at the confluence of the Han, Rong, and Lian Rivers, with a subtropical marine monsoon climate, an average annual temperature of 21.5°C, and abundant rainfall. The scenic area features four major landscapes: sea, mountain, rock, and cave, combining majestic, peculiar, beautiful, and secluded natural characteristics. It is one of the first batch of national AAAA-level tourist attractions in the Chaoshan region. Queueshi Scenic Area plans six core scenic areas: Tashan, Yanfeng, Xianglu Mountain, Bijia Mountain, Su'an, and East and West Lake. The area preserves modern Western-style buildings such as the former British Consulate, German Consulate, and Christian church. With high ecological coverage, dense forest vegetation, and fresh air, it is an ideal place for photography, hiking, leisure, and cultural experiences. The scenic area has complete supporting facilities, including cable cars, slides, coastal wooden boardwalks, circular trails, and various water entertainment activities, while also offering Chaoshan specialty cuisine and shell carving crafts for sale. Queueshi Scenic Area combines natural landscapes with cultural and historical value. The cliff inscriptions at Tashan Scenic Area, such as "Spring Tide Eight Hundred Miles, Southern Country's First Prefecture," highlight the majestic momentum of Queueshi; Yanfeng and Xianglu Mountains feature overlapping peaks and rugged rocks; Bijia Mountain Scenic Area is known for its high peaks and canyon scenery; East and West Lake Scenic Area offers fishing, leisure, and water activities. The scenic area has profound historical and cultural heritage, with well-preserved ancient post road outlets and port opening sites. Visitors can stroll along the coastal boardwalk, enjoy views of Queueshi Bridge and the inner bay, and experience water entertainment or photo opportunities. Since 2020, free admission has been implemented, attracting a large number of visitors annually, with 1.65 million visitors in 2023.

Travel tips

  • Transportation:By land, you can reach via Shenshan Expressway, Guangshan Highway (National Highway 324), Provincial Road 337, Nanbin Road, Queueshi Bridge, and Haiwan Bridge; by water, you can take the square ferry or Xidi Pier passenger ferry to the scenic area, with a ferry journey of about 8 minutes and departures every 15 minutes.
  • Opening Hours:Open all year round from 09:30 to 21:00.
  • Ticket:Free admission since January 1, 2020.
  • Best Season to Visit:Spring and autumn offer soft light and suitable temperatures for hiking, photography, and water activities; summer allows for swimming and water entertainment.
  • Food and Specialties:The scenic area offers Chaoshan specialty cuisine, such as lettuce lobster and guo zhi; specialties include shell carvings, Chaozhou oranges, and Donghu watermelons.
