Nan'ao Nanshan Temple
Nan'ao Nanshan Temple is located in Jinshan Village, Shen'ao Town, Nan'ao County, Shantou City. It was built in the late Ming Dynasty, expanded from a small temple dedicated to the Fire God, and is a cultural relic protection unit of Nan'ao County. The plaque on the gate tower reads "Nanshan" in two characters, inscribed by a monk who was a Jinshi (imperial scholar) in the early Qing Dynasty, while the character "Si" (temple) was later added by later generations, reflecting its profound cultural heritage. The main buildings of Nanshan Temple include the Heavenly King Hall, the Mahavira Hall, and the Guanyin Pavilion. In the Heavenly King Hall, Maitreya Buddha sits in the front, Skanda stands behind as a protector, and the Four Heavenly Kings are on the left and right. The Mahavira Hall is the central building, enshrining the Three Life Buddhas in the middle, the Eighteen Arhats on both sides, and Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva at the back. The Guanyin Pavilion enshrines Guanyin Bodhisattva, Sudhana, and the Dragon Girl. The temple is built against the mountain, with a reasonable layout, a quiet environment, surrounded by ancient towering trees and spring water, making it an ideal place for leisure, prayer, and photography.
